SECOND ANNUAL Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA
The second-annual Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA will be played
May 26-June 1, 2008, at RiverTowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant,
S.C.
One of the deepest fields in golf, last year’s tournament roster
included all 50 of the top-50 players in the Rolex World
Rankings and 94 of the top 100. Not only was this due to the
fact that so many players hold ANNIKA in such high regard, but
the $2.6 million purse – second to only the major championships
in 2007 – didn’t hurt either. This year, the same combination
will be in effect, all but guaranteeing an unforgettable field
well worth watching.
Nicole Castrale outlasted world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa in a one-hole
playoff to win the 2007 event, her first LPGA victory. Coming to
the 71st hole one shot behind, Castrale made a clutch 12-foot
birdie putt to author a two-shot swing when Ochoa bogeyed,
eventually forcing the playoff.
The Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA was born as a way for Annika
Sorenstam, LPGA Hall of Famer, winner of 69 LPGA tournaments, 10
major championships and arguably the best player of this era to
give back to the game. Each year, she honors a legend of the
women’s game that helped make it into what it is today.
In her first event, ANNIKA honored LPGA Founders Bettye Danoff,
Marlene Bauer Hagge, Betty Jameson, Marilynn Smith, Shirley
Spork and Louise Suggs as the first Tributees.
Come see the second-annual Ginn Tribute Hosted by ANNIKA. It’s
got it all: a beautiful, world-class host course, one of the
deepest fields in golf, and the world’s greatest players from
today and yesterday.
